Power Talk Featuring Wendy Spencer

Tuesday, September 24, 2013
7 PM
Held Auditorium, 3rd Floor Barnard Hall

From Anna Quindlen on feminism to Charlayne Hunter-Gault on journalism to Sheila Nevins on documentary filmmaking, Power Talks feature today's leaders in conversation on provocative topics of the moment. Each talk is followed by an audience Q&A.

On September 24, 2013, we will welcome Wendy Spencer, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that engages more than 5 million Americans in service through its core programs -- Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, and the Social Innovation Fund. She also leads President Obama's national call to service initiative, United We Serve.

Prior to joining CNCS, Spencer served eight years as the CEO of the Florida Governor's Commission on Volunteerism, commonly known as Volunteer Florida. During the state's record-breaking 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons, the agency coordinated donations worth more than $85 million and more than 252,000 volunteers, the largest mobilization of volunteers in the history of U.S. natural disasters at that time.
