The 2014 Athena Film Festival which showcases films that address women’s leadership in real life and the fictional world has announced its lineup of 35+ narrative, documentary and short films. Now in its fourth year, the festival runs from Thursday, February 6 through Sunday, February 9 on the Barnard College campus. Artemis Rising Foundation is the Founding Sponsor of the Festival. The fourth annual Athena Film Festival is proud to announce this year’s recipients of the Athena Film Festival Awards, which honor noted actors, directors, producers and other members of the film industry for their leadership and creative accomplishments. Philanthropist Sherry Lansing, former Chair and CEO of Paramount Pictures and former President of 20th Century Fox, will receive The Laura Ziskin Lifetime Achievement Award. The inaugural class of Athena Distinguished Fellows for the 2013-2014 academic year include: Jimmie Briggs, founder of the Man Up Campaign; John Gerzema, author of The Athena Doctrine: How Women (And the Men Who Think Like Them) Will Rule the Future; and Marie C. Our Athena Film Festival Interns have written and directed a short video on the importance of college filmmakers submitting their films to festivals -- especially those featuring leading ladies. The Athena Center partnered with The Girl Scout Leadership Institute New York in July 2013 to offer a Summer Intensive to fifty-one NYC Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts, in grades 9-12, had the unique opportunity to develop ideas for socially responsible businesses and have them evaluated by some of New York's best and brightest women. The Summer Intensive was covered by media outlets such as The Daily News, NY Amersterdam News, Black Star News and others.
